Yuthok Yonten Gonpo the Younger was a Tibetan doctor and ngakpa (non-monastic tantric practitioner) who is recognized for writing the Four Medical Tantras, a four-volume treatise on Tibetan medicine that is the Tibetan medical tradition's main course of study. His father taught him medicine, and he started practicing when he was eight years old. He also learned under nine physicians who were lineage carriers of medicinal traditions that had reached that period directly through oral transmission from the 8th century. It is traditionally recognized as a vital spiritual component of Tibetan medical culture, as well as a particularly distinctive method for achieving quick awakening and realization in all Tibetan Buddhist traditions.
