Hand-Painted White Tara With Other Deities Thangka | Seven-Eyed Tara
Skilled artisans in the Kathmandu Valley skillfully hand-painted this White Tara with Other Deities thangka on handmade cotton canvas using traditional Himalayan methods. The canvas is layered with natural gesso to create a smooth and durable surface suitable for intricate brushwork and detailed iconography. High-quality acrylic colors are applied to produce vibrant, long-lasting hues, highlighting White Tara and the accompanying deities’ flowing robes, ornaments, and lotus thrones. Genuine 24K gold is used to accentuate crowns, halos, and decorative motifs, adding a luminous and auspicious glow across the thangka.
Tibetan Buddhism admires White Tara, also known as Sita Tara, as a symbol of compassion, wisdom, and longevity. Traditionally shown seated on a lotus, she demonstrates the purity and tranquillity achieved through compassion. White Tara is often associated with providing healing, protection, and granting long life. At the same time, her multiple-eye depictions on her palms, feet, and forehead represent her vigilance and ability to see all beings suffering so she can assist them in attaining liberation from that suffering. Shakyamuni Buddha, the source of enlightened energy and wisdom, stands above White Tara. Two Bodhisattvas, Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) and another deity, Chongapa, flank him, symbolizing the circle of enlightened beings that support Tara's actions. Below White Tara is Namgyalma, a goddess in Tibetan Buddhism who is revered as a protector of longevity and a remover of obstacles on the path to spiritual growth; Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, signifies long life, vitality, and the constant movement of life energy.
