Himalayan Wheel of Life Art | Liberation from Samsara

Wheel of Life Art is hand-painted by skilled artists in the Kathmandu Valley, preserving the profound teachings of Buddhist cosmology through traditional Himalayan thangka workmanship. The Wheel of Life (also known as Bhavachakra) is a prominent Buddhist symbol representing the cycle of samsara—the endless cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth. It demonstrates how ignorance, desire, and pain interact and link beings to the cycle of rebirth. A pig (ignorance), a snake (hate), and a bird (attachment) surround ignorance, which is portrayed as the primary source of misery (dukkha). The cycle is fueled by these "three poisons" and results in misery and bad karma. The wheel depicts six karma-based realms of existence: the animal realm (ignorance), the human realm (possibility of liberation), the asura realm (jealousy), the god realm (pleasure but imprisoned in ignorance), the hell realm (suffering), and the hungry ghost realm (desire). The Wheel of Life, which is held by Yama, the Lord of Death, serves as a reminder that one can overcome the three poisons and break free from samsara by practicing meditation, ethical behavior, and correct understanding.
