This Vajrayana Tibetan Kadampa Stupa is a traditional Buddhist altar sculpture measuring 32.5cm in height, 18.5cm in length, and 18.5cm in width, with a weight of 2.87 kg. Crafted from a copper body with gold plating, this sacred stupa features an elaborately decorated base, tiered architectural sections, a central shrine-like structure, and a richly ornamented upper canopy. The detailed metalwork and golden surface reflect the artistry of Himalayan Buddhist sculpture, creating a meaningful piece for Buddhist altars, meditation spaces, and sacred collections.

This Kadampa Stupa reflects traditional Buddhist architectural elements with finely worked decorative details. The broad base features layered sections with raised ornamental patterns, while the central rounded body is enhanced with delicate rope like borders and floral accents. The arched shrine opening is framed by an elaborate decorative panel featuring scrolling foliage, carved motifs, and a prominent mythical face at the upper center. Additional ornamental figures and curling motifs surround the shrine opening, adding depth to the composition. The upper structure rises through a stepped section into a conical roof and richly decorated canopy, while the finely detailed finial completes the sacred form. Introduction of Kadampa Stupa

Historically, before Buddhism, great teachers were buried in mounds. While some were cremated, others were sometimes interred in a seated, meditative position, covered by a mound of earth. Consequently, the domed shape of the stupa came to represent a person seated in meditation, much like the Buddha when he attained Enlightenment and understood the Four Noble Truths. The base of the stupa represents his crossed legs in a meditative pose, the middle portion signifies the Buddha’s body, and the top of the mound, where a pole rises from the apex surrounded by a small fence, represents his head. Prior to the creation of human Buddha images, reliefs often depicted practitioners demonstrating devotion to a stupa.
