About Our Product

This Vajrayana Ritual Knife is a finely handcrafted Himalayan ceremonial object featuring a metal blade accompanied by an elaborately decorated sheath. The sheath is richly ornamented with detailed dragon motifs, cheppu carvings, and scrolling floral patterns, creating an intricate relief surface. Coral and turquoise stones are set vertically at the center of the sheath, adding vibrant accents to the silver-toned craftsmanship. The ornate handle is similarly decorated with traditional patterns and finished with a coral detail, reflecting the elaborate metalwork associated with Himalayan ritual objects.

In Vajrayana Buddhist symbolism, ceremonial blades are associated with the cutting through of ignorance, attachment, delusion, and spiritual obstacles. The sharp blade represents the penetrating quality of wisdom, while the decorated sheath provides a ceremonial setting for the implement. The dragon motif is associated with strength, protection, and auspicious energy, while cheppu-style ornamental carving contributes to the traditional Himalayan decorative vocabulary. The coral and turquoise embellishments add color and further emphasize the craftsmanship of the piece.

The knife features a removable blade and a decorated protective sheath, allowing the intricate craftsmanship of both components to be appreciated. This Handcrafted Vajrayana Ritual Knife is suitable for Buddhist ritual collections, shrine displays, monasteries, galleries, museums, and collectors of Himalayan ceremonial art. It is primarily presented as a traditional ritual and collectible object rather than an everyday cutting tool. The combination of iron, silver-plated and copper detailing, dragon and cheppu motifs, and coral and turquoise accents makes it a distinctive example of Himalayan Vajrayana craftsmanship.

Introduction To The Kartika Knife :

While the Kartika is used in many Buddhist rituals, generally in connection with the kapala (skullcap), it is especially essential in the Tibetan practice of Chöd, a ritual involving self-sacrifice in which the practitioner visualizes their own body as an offering at a tantric feast. The Kartika is also famous for its use in the Tibetan sky burial ritual, where dead bodies are cut into small pieces and left on top of special gats or burial platforms for the vultures to consume. Unexpectedly, the Kartika is also used in Feng Shui practice.
