Traditional Two-Armed Chenrezig Thangka | The Peaceful Form of Avalokiteshvara
The Two-Armed Chenrezig Thangka is a hand-painted Nepali artwork depicting Avalokiteshvara, a revered Bodhisattva of compassion, in a peaceful form. It is created on cotton canvas using acrylic colors and 24K gold. Its high-contrast black background enhances Chenrezig's serene expression, golden robes, and radiant aura, symbolizing his boundless compassionate presence.
Seated on a blooming lotus throne, this two-armed form of Chenrezig delicately holds a blue utpala flower between his fingers in the right hand, representing compassionate wisdom. In contrast, the left hand rests gently behind his knee in a gesture of giving. His posture reflects readiness to act for the benefit of all beings while remaining centered in peace. The white complexion symbolizes the purity of the awakened mind, and his relaxed royal ease posture (lalitasana) signifies his readiness to respond to suffering. His adorned body glows with gold-trimmed garments and a crown of five jewels, denoting the five transcendental Buddhas and the perfection of the five wisdoms.
The landscape below features deer, cranes, and flowing water, symbolizing gentleness, longevity, and enlightened activity. It is ideal for meditation, devotional display, or to invoke a tranquil and compassionate atmosphere in any sacred space.
