In Mahayana's Mystic Buddhist tradition, Bhaisajyaguru - also known as the Medicine Buddha - is the deity of healing, as both a source of physical and psychological healing power.  Seated on a lotus throne, with a bowl of medicinal nectar in one hand, he is often surrounded by healing plants and symbols of purification. Medicine Buddha has the nature of compassion, so he can aid in ending the suffering of all beings, heal illness, both worldly and spiritual, and he thus represents the unity of wisdom and compassion, with the ability to cure through insight and energies of healing. Surrounding him are the Eight Medicine Buddhas (Asta Medicine Buddhas), each seated in peaceful meditation on lotus clouds, representing different aspects of healing energy, compassion, and enlightened activity. Their presence forms a powerful mandala of purification and well-being. The surrounding arrangement of Buddhas and celestial forms reflects a complete healing field, where each figure contributes to the restoration of balance, longevity, and inner peace. The peaceful landscape, floral offerings, and soft cloud formations enhance the sacred atmosphere, symbolizing harmony between the physical and spiritual realms.
