About Our Product
This Tibetan Buddhist Kartika Ritual Knife is a handcrafted bronze ritual object featuring a curved blade joined to an ornate vajra-style handle. Measuring 10.5cm in height and length, the compact piece combines the distinctive crescent-shaped blade with traditional ornamental metalwork, making it suitable for Buddhist altars, ritual collections, and sacred displays.
The design features a curved kartika blade positioned alongside an elaborate crossed vajra form, with pointed terminals and layered decorative elements extending from the central structure. Fine relief work covers the handle and surrounding forms, while the bronze surface displays engraved patterns and ornamental detailing. The combination of the crescent blade and vajra elements gives the piece its characteristic Vajrayana ritual appearance.
In Vajrayana Buddhist practice, the kartika is a ritual implement commonly associated with symbolic cutting through attachment and obstacles. Its curved blade is an important feature of tantric ritual imagery, while the vajra elements express the indestructible nature of awakened wisdom. This bronze ritual knife can be displayed on Buddhist altars, within shrine arrangements, or as part of a collection of traditional Himalayan Buddhist ritual objects.
Introduction of Kartika Knife
The Kartika is used in many Buddhist rituals, often in conjunction with the kapala (skullcap). Together, they symbolize the transformation of the five poisons into the five wisdoms. The Kartika is also utilized in the Tibetan sky burial ritual, where deceased bodies are sectioned and left for vultures on specialized platforms. Additionally, the Kartika finds application in Feng Shui practice.
