About Our Product
This Tibetan Buddhist Altar Vajra is a handcrafted Vajrayana ritual object made from copper with an electroplated gold finish. Created by artist Raj in 2012, the piece features an unusually elongated double-ended vajra form with richly ornamented prongs, decorative collars, and a finely worked central section. The gold-plated surface emphasizes the raised carvings and patterned details across the entire object, reflecting the traditional craftsmanship of Himalayan Buddhist ritual art.
The design features a symmetrical Vajra (Dorje) with multiple curved prongs extending from both ends toward the central hub. Each side contains elaborate scrolling forms and ornamental elements that converge toward decorated circular collars, while the center features a patterned spherical section enclosed between carved bands. The balanced arrangement of the prongs and central hub reflects the traditional structure of the vajra, while the detailed relief work gives the piece a distinctive artistic character. Its substantial 59cm length makes it particularly prominent as an altar or ceremonial display object.
In Vajrayana Buddhism, the Vajra is a principal ritual implement symbolizing indestructibility, clarity of wisdom, and the inseparable relationship between wisdom and compassion. It is used in various Buddhist rituals and practices and is also placed on altars as a sacred representation of enlightened qualities. This 2012 Copper Vajra by Raj is suitable for Buddhist altars, monasteries, meditation spaces, shrine rooms, Vajrayana ritual collections, galleries, and collectors of Himalayan sacred art.
The Tibetan Dorje represents the indestructibility and efficiency that overcome all obstacles. Symbolically, the Dorje Vajra destroys ignorance. In Tibetan Buddhist rituals, the vajra is often paired with the bell, representing masculine and feminine, yin and yang, and the balance between practical action and compassion. The shape of the Tibetan Dorje is symmetrical, with two pyramidal heads representing samsara and Nirvana that cancel each other out in its center due to the ring of Emptiness. Having a Dorje at home can offer positive virtues against various attacks.
