About Our Product

This Tibetan Altar Buddhist Stupa measures 22cm in height, 20.5cm in length, and 20.5cm in width, with a weight of 0.91 kg. Handcrafted from wood, this compact stupa features a dark natural finish and a carefully structured form with a broad square base, multiple stepped levels, a rounded dome, and a tiered upper section. The simple dark surface emphasizes the sculptural construction and traditional architectural character of the piece.

The design follows the recognizable form of a Buddhist stupa, with the lower stepped base supporting the rounded dome and ascending upper elements. The square foundation is built from successive raised tiers, while the central dome transitions into a smaller square section and a vertically layered spire. The carefully proportioned arrangement creates a clear upward movement from the broad base toward the finial, reflecting the characteristic vertical composition of Buddhist stupa architecture.

Stupas are important sacred structures in Buddhist traditions and are associated with the Buddha's teachings, enlightened presence, and the path toward awakening. This wooden representation is sized for placement on a Buddhist altar, shrine, meditation space, Dharma center, or within a collection of Himalayan Buddhist art. Its compact form makes it suitable for displaying alongside other sacred objects while retaining the recognizable architectural character of a traditional stupa.

Introduction of Stupa

Prior to Buddhism, great teachers were interred in mounds. While some were cremated, others were buried in a seated, meditative posture, covered by an earth mound. Consequently, the stupa's domed shape evolved to represent a person seated in meditation, mirroring the Buddha's posture when he attained Enlightenment and understood the Four Noble Truths. The base of the stupa symbolizes his crossed legs in a meditative pose, the middle section represents the Buddha’s body, and the apex, from which a pole rises surrounded by a small fence, signifies his head. Before human images of the Buddha were created, reliefs frequently depicted practitioners demonstrating devotion to a stupa.
