Hand-painted Standing Siddhartha Gautama Thangka | Shakyamuni Buddha
The historical Buddha's transforming presence at the edge of enlightenment is depicted in the Standing Siddhartha Gautama Thangka. Siddhartha is shown standing elegantly, exuding wisdom, compassion, and unflinching resolve. This thangka preserves the revered Karma Gadri tradition, which is renowned for its expansive vistas and exquisite elegance. It is completely hand-painted on fine cotton canvas utilizing the natural colors of Lhasa stones and embellished with 24K gold.
Standing Siddhartha Gautama depicts the enlightened teacher who renounced luxury to seek liberation from suffering. Born as Prince Siddhartha in Lumbini, he left palace life after witnessing sickness, old age, and death. Through meditation beneath the Bodhi tree, he attained enlightenment and became the Buddha—the Awakened One. His standing form symbolizes active compassion, readiness to guide beings, and transmission of Dharma. In Tibetan tradition, this depiction honors his awakening and role as a universal teacher whose wisdom reshaped spiritual history across Asia and beyond. He stands on a moon disc on a lotus seat, symbolizing purity above suffering. His radiant golden body reflects wisdom, and elongated earlobes recall his princely past. This thangka is more than art; it’s a meditative gateway made with devotion and mastery.
