Description

Sri Devi Magzor Gyalmo Thangka, Motherly Buddhist Protector

Motherly Buddhist Protector, Magzor gyalmo has two arms and one face. In the thangka, she carries the devil of mental ailments in her mouth on the inner plane of symbolism. She bites down on this demon with her sharp fangs of attentiveness, circumspection, heedfulness, and vigilance. The burning fire of perfect wisdom (jnana) that incinerates all worldly concepts (vikalpa), which are the root causes of all unhappiness, is symbolized by her red hair rising upward. She wears a five-skull crown to indicate that she has defeated the five poisons (greed, anger, ignorance, pride, and jealousy). In the center of her forehead, the third eye of wisdom is wide open. Her navel is marked by the Tantric sign of the sun of knowledge and the moon of compassion.

Note: Palden Lhamo
Thangka is an original painting from Enlightenment Studio, located at Boudha Stupa.

Palden Lhamo, also known as Shridevi, is the dark emanation of Vajra Sarasvati, who, in her ferocious form. Palden Lhamo is the loving mother but highly wrathful, furious, and overwhelming in Her power; nothing,
absolutely nothing, can stand in Her way. Palden Lhamo can alternatively be thought
of as the fierce aspect of wisdom, as the wrathful emanation of Vajra Sarasvati.
