Introduction of Shakyamuni Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama, born the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom, was raised as a king according to his royal father's wishes. Around age 29, he encountered immense human suffering. He then renounced his lavish lifestyle, clothing, and fortune to find the source of this anguish and discover a remedy. After more than six years of study, self-denial, and intense concentration, he finally achieved his goal: attaining nirvana, thus becoming a Buddha. He later taught in a deer park outside Varanasi, at Sarnath (Benares), India.
