Note: Sakya Refuge Tree Thangka is an original painting from Enlightenment Studio located at Boudha Stupa.
In the form of a genealogical chart, the "Refuge" for each sect or lineage are depicted in the Refuge Tree or Refuge Field paintings. According to visual and artistic sources, the idea of creating a general Field of Accumulation in Thangka is a new 20th-century concept in the Sakya Tradition. The compositional structures symbolize the interconnection of the diverse figures and groupings. The figures of "Refuge" are commonly shown as a tree diagram with three primary forms: stylized tree branches, a palace or lotus flower, and a lion throne.
