This Sacred Handmade Ritual Dagger is a finely crafted Vajrayana ritual object created by artist Purana Bahadur Shakya in 2020. Made from copper with an electro-gold plated and antique finish, the piece features an elaborate upper section, a richly ornamented central shaft, and a traditional pointed phurba blade. The detailed metalwork throughout the dagger showcases intricate ornamental carving and the traditional craftsmanship associated with Himalayan Buddhist ritual objects. The antique finish adds depth to the carved surfaces while emphasizing the layered construction and decorative details.

The upper section is crowned by Hayagriva, a powerful wrathful deity associated with the transformation of obstacles and the forceful protection of the Dharma. The Hayagriva head gives the phurba its distinctive iconographic character, with the wrathful expression and elaborate surrounding ornamentation representing powerful enlightened activity. Below the deity head, the central shaft is richly decorated with intricate motifs before extending into the pointed Phurba (Kīla) blade. Introduction of Phurba

The ceremonial dagger (Sanskrit: Kila; Tibetan: phurba) is essential for expelling evil and is considered particularly effective in neutralizing the forces obstructing Tantric Buddhist practice. It has ancient origins, first appearing in the Indian Rig Veda as the core blade of the vajra used by Indra to destroy the primordial cosmic snake Vritra. Kila, derived from Sanskrit, was most likely associated with Vedic sacrifices. Meditation on the Vajrakila Tantra, an early Indian scripture first promoted in Tibet in the eighth century by Padmasambhava, one of the founding teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, is used to invoke the three-headed Vajrakila Buddha.
