Introduction to Tormas
Tormas are made of barley flour and decorated with butter buttons. Metals such as copper, silver, and gold, on the other hand, are used. Metal-based tormas have the advantage of being more durable than perishable food tormas. A metal torma can be used for a variety of purposes, including symbolic weapons in repulsion rituals. Tormas are also frequently depicted in paintings that hang on the walls of temples dedicated to the wrathful deities. Torma offerings are typically used to appease ferocious Dharmapala such as the Mahakala and Shri Devi.
