Note: The 8 White Tara Thangka is an original painting from Enlightenment Studio, located at Boudha Stupa.
Tara is the goddess of compassion or, as her name suggests, the one who saves. Eons ago, a princess, Yeshe Dawa, vowed to become enlightened to benefit all the infinite beings who suffered in samsara. The religious leaders of that time, believing that it was only possible to become enlightened in a male body, advised her to pray for a male reincarnation." However, Princess vowed to attain enlightenment and carry out all her enlightened activities throughout the three times (past, present, and future) in female form. Eventually, this female bodhisattva became an utterly enlightened buddha known as Tara.
