His multiple arms hold various symbolic objects, e.g., a jewel or a curved knife, which provide opportunities for bestowing blessings, for offering spiritual bounty, and for providing protection. White Mahākāla's peaceful nature is a reflection that one requires both compassion and wisdom on the journey toward enlightenment. In Tibetan Buddhism, the practitioner invokes White Mahākāla to eliminate both the material and spiritual obstacles to the continuance of the practitioner's spiritual journey. In Vajrayana Buddhism, Vajradharma is a sacred notion that symbolizes the ultimate truth expressed as a protective god and the essence of enlightened activity.
