This Namo Altar Shakyamuni Buddha Statue is a handcrafted sculpture made from oxidized copper, showcasing the refined skills of traditional Himalayan metal craftsmanship. The statue depicts Shakyamuni Buddha seated peacefully upon an intricately decorated lotus pedestal, with a richly textured surface that highlights the detailed carving throughout the sculpture. The oxidized copper finish creates a deep, antique appearance, enhancing the fine details of the Buddha’s robes, facial expression, hair curls, and ornamental patterns. Every section of the statue, from the finely carved pedestal to the detailed back surface, reflects the dedication and precision involved in creating a traditional Buddhist sculpture.
The statue portrays Shakyamuni Buddha in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture representing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called upon the earth as a witness to his awakening. His right hand extends downward toward the earth while his left hand rests in meditation posture, holding the traditional alms bowl. The sculpture features a calm facial expression, elongated ears, detailed ushnisha, and carefully carved robe folds. The back of the statue is equally detailed, featuring ornamental patterns across the robe and pedestal that demonstrate the artisan’s attention to every visible surface. Created by artist Narendra Shakya, this 15-year-old sculpture represents the continuation of traditional Newar craftsmanship and handcrafted metalwork.

Introduction of Shakyamuni Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama was born the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom, raised as a king according to his royal father's wishes. Around age 29, he became aware of humanity's immense suffering. He renounced his lavish lifestyle, clothing, and fortune to discover the source of this anguish and find a cure. After over six years of study, self-denial, and intense concentration, he finally achieved his objective: attaining nirvana, becoming a Buddha. He then taught that he had visited a deer park outside Sarnath (Benares), near Varanasi, India.

Each statue contains a sacred chamber for mantra and relic fillings to bestow spiritual empowerment. During consecration, these sacred items are placed inside and blessed through traditional rituals performed by the ordained monks. There is a fee for this service, offered as a respectful contribution to the monastery.
