Description

A Mother Vajrayogini, Dakini Thangka Painting

Vajrayogini is depicted in the Karma Gadri style, and she emanates a semi wrathful aura. The thangka was painted with a natural stone hue and 24K Gold that is long-lasting and fade-resistant. Holding her characteristic attributes of skullcup and flaying knife, Vajrayogini is shown with a slightly open mouth ready to drink the contents of the blood-filled skullcup. She's standing in the sun disc lotus seat, which appears to float on the water.

Note: Vajrayogini Thangka is an original painting from Enlightenment Studio located at Boudha Stupa.

Vajrayogini is a female deity, and while she is occasionally depicted simply as Vajrayogini, she is depicted in a different form in nearly two-thirds of the rituals in a collection of her sadhanas. She is a meditation deity or the yab-yum consort of one, and her practice involves practices for preventing ordinary death, intermediate state (bardo), and reincarnation (by transforming them into routes to enlightenment), as well as transforming all mundane daily experiences into higher spiritual paths.
