In this thangka, Medicine Buddha (also known as Menla or healing Buddha) is drawn in blue color, the color of Lapis Lazuli, as the name of the Buddha itself suggests. His right-hand holds a part of myrobalam(Latin Terminakia Chebula) in the Varadamudra gesture. His left hand is on his lap, holding an alms bowl containing medicines. In the Tibetan Medical Tradition, he is considered to be the source of all medical treatises.
