Description

Tibetan Medicine Buddha Thangka

In this thangka, Medicine Buddha is painted in lapis lazuli blue. A branch of myrobalan is held in his right hand. A lapis lazuli pindapatra in his left hand, which lies on his lap, contains medicines. The Buddha has an ushnisha, urna, longed-lobed ears, and curly hair. He wears a monk robe and sits cross-legged. The hue blue, or lapis lazuli, on his body indicates that he embraces all of the suffering beings' diseases and ailments. Myrobalan is a plant that represents a remedy for all ailments in sentient beings.
