In Mahayana Buddhism, Manjushri, sometimes referred to as Manjughosha or Gentle Glory, is a bodhisattva that stands for knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. He is regarded as one of Tibetan Buddhism's most significant and well-liked deities.

In a thangka painting, Manjushri is shown as a young man holding a lotus blossom in his left hand to indicate his purity and compassion and a sword in his right hand to represent his capacity to cut through ignorance and delusion. He is frequently portrayed riding on a lion, which stands for courage and sturdiness.
