Mahakali, Palden Lhamo is the wrathful aspect of the peaceful goddess Sarasvati (Yang Chenma). She is generally a protector and is likewise used for divination rituals. Any genuine undertaking of her practice is always done with a self-visualization of some wrathful form of Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom. Most Tibetan ancestries have some form of this deity, commonly found in Gelugpa and Sakya paintings.
