Hand-Painted Karmapa Thangka | Head of Karma Kagyu Lineage

Skilled artists in the Kathmandu Valley paint Karmapa Thangka by hand on meticulously prepared cotton canvas. The main lineage teacher of Tibetan Buddhism's Karma Kagyu tradition is the Karmapa. The most famous emblem of the Karmapa lineage, the Black Crown, is worn by him together with elaborately patterned monastic robes. The crown is symbolic of the Karmapas' spiritual realization and awakened activity, according to Karma Kagyu tradition.
