About Our Product

This Himalayan Ritual Kapala measures 26 cm in height, 17 cm in length, and 25 cm in width, and weighs 1.98 kg. Made in 2017 by artist Mekhe, it combines an iron stand with a copper kapala finished with fire gilding. The wide bowl, raised stand, skull ornaments, and traditional decorative details give this ritual object a distinctive Himalayan Buddhist appearance. It can be placed on a Buddhist altar or used as part of a Vajrayana ritual setting.

This Kapala shows carefully arranged symbolic details. The bowl has a decorated rim with repeated skull motifs, while three prominent skull forms rise around the upper section, each topped with a flame-like ornament. The central front element presents a crowned head surrounded by traditional ornamentation. Small skulls and flowing decorative patterns continue around the rim. Below the bowl, the iron stand has curved supports ending in scroll-like forms, with additional skull ornaments placed at the sides and front. The skull imagery relates to impermanence and the transformation of ordinary attachments, while the fire gilding highlights selected copper details.

This Ritual Kapala can be used as a ceremonial vessel in Vajrayana Buddhist practices where a kapala is traditionally required. It may also be displayed on a Buddhist shrine, altar, meditation space, or spiritual collection as a representation of tantric Buddhist symbolism. The imagery encourages reflection on impermanence, transformation, and the path toward spiritual realization.

Introduction of Kapala Stand

In Tibetan Buddhism, the Kapala stands as a ritual implement with profound significance, used primarily in the practice of Chöd. Chöd, a form of tantric meditation, involves cutting through ego and attachment to achieve insight into the true nature of reality. The Kapala, crafted from the skull of a deceased person, functions as an offering bowl within these rituals. It is believed that the enlightened mind of the deceased individual is transformed into wisdom, guiding practitioners toward liberation. This ancient practice underscores the fundamental Buddhist principle of impermanence, encouraging practitioners to transcend their ego-centric perceptions and embrace compassion and wisdom. Through Chöd and the use of the Kapala, practitioners embark on a transformative journey, ultimately aiming to attain Buddhahood.
