About Our Product
This Hayagriva Phurba for Vajrayana Practice is a finely crafted ritual dagger made from a copper body with silver plating, representing the traditional form of a Vajrayana Phurba (Kila). The piece features a detailed upper deity section, an intricately carved central handle, and a pointed three-sided blade. The silver-plated surface highlights the raised carvings, including the wrathful deity face, crown-like ornaments, twisted shaft patterns, and engraved details along the blade. The craftsmanship reflects the traditional style of Himalayan ritual objects created for spiritual and ceremonial purposes.
The upper section features the wrathful form of Hayagriva, identified by the powerful facial expression, fierce eyes, prominent fangs, and elaborate crown ornamentation. The deity head gives this phurba its distinctive iconographic character, representing the dynamic and protective aspect of enlightened activity. The central shaft is decorated with detailed patterns, while the lower section follows the traditional Phurba (Kila) form with a pointed blade. In Vajrayana Buddhist traditions, the phurba is associated with the transformation of obstacles, stabilization of spiritual practice, and protective ritual activities.
This Hayagriva Phurba is suitable for Vajrayana Buddhist altars, shrine rooms, ritual collections, monasteries, meditation spaces, and collectors of Himalayan sacred art. Its detailed Hayagriva carving, traditional phurba structure, silver-plated copper craftsmanship, and compact size make it a distinctive representation of Tibetan Buddhist ritual artistry. This piece reflects the symbolic relationship between wrathful deity imagery and Vajrayana practices focused on transformation and protection.
Introduction of Phurba
The ceremonial dagger (Sanskrit: Kila; Tibetan: phurba) is essential for expelling evil and is considered particularly effective in neutralizing the forces obstructing Tantric Buddhist practice. It has ancient origins, first appearing in the Indian Rig Veda as the core blade of the vajra used by Indra to destroy the primordial cosmic snake Vritra. Kila, derived from Sanskrit, was most likely associated with Vedic sacrifices. Meditation on the Vajrakila Tantra, an early Indian scripture first promoted in Tibet in the eighth century by Padmasambhava, one of the founding teachers of Tibetan Buddhism, is used to invoke the three-headed Vajrakila Buddha.
