About The Prayer Wheel
This magnificent traditional portable prayer wheel is constructed of gold and silver plating, and filigreed copper. A metal "life tree" with thousands of mantras wound around it is at the center of the cylinder. The prayer wheel, which dates back to the fourth century, is a tangible representation of the term "spinning the wheel of Dharma," which explains how the Buddha taught. According to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, spinning a prayer wheel has the same meritorious effect as vocally repeating the prayers, based on historical scriptures.
How does Prayer Wheel benefit us?
The spiritual practice used by people who use a prayer wheel is highly particular. The practitioner rotates the wheel clockwise since the mantras are inscribed in the direction of the sun's journey across the sky. It is essential to focus the mind and say the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra as the practitioner revolves around the wheel. This not only increases the merit obtained by using the wheel, but it is also a mind-stabilization approach that trains the mind while the body is in motion.
