Introduction of Shakyamuni Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama was born the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom, raised as a king according to his royal father's wishes. Around age 29, he became aware of humanity's immense suffering. He renounced his lavish lifestyle, clothing, and fortune to discover the source of this anguish and find a cure. After over six years of study, self-denial, and intense concentration, he finally achieved his goal, attaining nirvana and becoming a Buddha. He then taught that he had visited a deer park outside Sarnath (Benares), near Varanasi, India.
