About Our Statue;
This handcrafted Buddhist Gautama Buddha statue embodies serenity, enlightenment, and spiritual awakening. It depicts Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha and founder of Buddhism, seated in deep meditation with his right hand touching the earth. This iconic gesture, known as the Bhumisparsha Mudra, symbolizes his victory over Mara, the embodiment of evil, and represents the moment he achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted sitting in the lotus pose (padmasana), indicating his steady concentration and mastery over the distractions of the material world. His right hand stretched toward the earth in bhumisparsha mudra represents his moment of enlightenment, inviting the earth to witness his waking. The left hand, lying gently in his lap in dhyana mudra, holding an alms bowl, depicts the profound state of meditation and mindfulness that leads to insight and clarity.
Introduction of Shakyamuni Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama was born the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom, raised as a king according to his royal father's wishes. Around age 29, he became aware of humanity's immense suffering. He then renounced his palatial lifestyle, lavish clothing, and fortune to discover the source of this anguish and find a cure. After more than six years of study, self-denial, and intense concentration, he finally achieved his objective, attaining nirvana (becoming a Buddha). He subsequently taught his insights, famously at a deer park outside Sarnath (Benares), near Varanasi, India.
