The Golden Throne of Gotama Buddha | Royalty & Awakening
An exquisite display of sacred artistry, the Gotama Buddha Thangka, a sacred artwork, is meticulously layered over a deep black canvas in the Paubha style, highlighting every intricate detail. The delicate application of acrylic colors enhances the textures, bringing a sense of depth and realism to the painting. The golden embellishments shimmer across the entire composition, from the Buddha’s robes to the elaborate throne, making it a truly mesmerizing artwork. Upon closer inspection, his flowing monk robe is made with auspicious symbols and subtle dragon motifs that signify wisdom, divine energy, and the power of enlightenment. The way the fabric folds and drapes is masterfully rendered, adding to the realism of this sacred depiction.
Gotama Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, sits with a calm yet powerful presence, embodying the pinnacle of wisdom and enlightenment. His expression exudes profound serenity, half-closed eyes reflecting deep meditation and inner peace. He is sitting on a lotus seat in the Vajra posture, which represents unwavering spiritual strength. His left hand is holding a monk's bowl, signifying renunciation and detachment from material desire, while his right hand is in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, which represents the moment he called the Earth to witness his enlightenment. His aura of enlightenment is further enhanced by his halo, which glows behind him in bright gold and represents his limitless compassion and wisdom.
Gotama Buddha is seated on a magnificent two-tiered throne that is layered with celestial meaning. At the base layer, mighty elephants, known for their strength and steadfast nature, provide a firm foundation. Dragons gracefully coil above them, providing knowledge and protection. The throne is further embellished with young Devas, celestial deities, and Makara (mythical sea monsters), all of whom are arranged in harmony to symbolize the cosmic forces that support the Buddha's teachings. A Garuda clutching a serpent is subtly blended into the deities' hands, signifying the triumph of wisdom over ignorance. Beneath the throne, delicate lotus petals unfold, cradling the Buddha in an ethereal embrace, further reinforcing the theme of purity and enlightenment.
The set of flickering butter lamps at the front of the throne illuminates the sacred offering space with a warm glow, signifying the eradication of darkness and the illumination of wisdom. Every aspect of this Thangka has been rendered with meticulous detail, blending rich Paubha elements with an unparalleled sense of realism. A rare and remarkable work of art, this Thangka is perfect for meditation areas, individual shrines, or sacred collections due to its gold-on-black canvas combination. Its powerful presence guides practitioners toward enlightenment, wisdom, and inner calm by acting as a continual reminder of the Buddha's teachings.
