This Gautama Buddha Buddhist Sculpture is a handcrafted copper statue with an oxidized surface developed over approximately 50 years. The sculpture presents Shakyamuni Buddha seated on a lotus pedestal, surrounded by an elaborate tree-like ornamental frame. The natural oxidation on the copper surface creates a distinctive aged appearance, highlighting the character and history of this traditional Himalayan Buddhist artwork.
The statue features Buddha in the Bhumisparsha mudra, with his right hand touching the earth as a witness to his enlightenment. Detailed elements include the serene facial expression, curled hair, monastic robes, lotus throne, and the beautifully carved surrounding frame resembling the Bodhi tree associated with the Buddha’s awakening. Introduction of Shakyamuni Buddha
Siddhartha Gautama was born the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom and raised as a king, fulfilling his royal father's wishes. Around the age of 29, he became aware of humanity's immense suffering. He renounced his opulent lifestyle, lavish clothing, and fortune to discover the source of this anguish and find a remedy. After more than six years of study, self-denial, and intense concentration, he finally achieved his goal, attaining nirvana and becoming a Buddha. He later taught that he had visited a deer park outside Sarnath (Benares), near Varanasi, India.
