Divine Yamantaka Thangka | Wrathful Deity of the Tantric Path
This Yamantaka Thangka is a stunning painting of Himalayan sacred art, hand-painted on cotton canvas using natural acrylic pigments and 24K gold highlights. Created by a Nepali artisan in the traditional lineage, it showcases the highest level of ritual workmanship and iconographic precision. Yamantaka—whose name means “Destroyer of Death”—is the wrathful form of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, and symbolizes the enlightened mind’s power to annihilate ignorance and samsaric fear.
In this thangka, Yamantaka is depicted with multiple heads, 32 arms, and 16 legs, each rendered to embody his omniscient presence and unstoppable force. The central buffalo face snarls with flaming wrath, while above it rises the serene countenance of Manjushri, signifying ultimate wisdom behind the fury. He stands triumphantly upon a sun-disc lotus throne, trampling symbolic figures representing ego, hatred, desire, and death. His garland of severed heads and bone ornaments signifies the transformation of ignorance into transcendent awareness. Surrounding Yamantaka are complementary wrathful protectors, anchoring the thangka in a sacred cosmic field.
The background is richly painted with Tibetan landscapes, evoking both the terrestrial and transcendental realms in which Yamantaka operates. This rare and fierce thangka is ideal for advanced Vajrayana practitioners, tantric meditators, or collectors of sacred Buddhist art.
