In Mahayana Buddhism, Chenrezig, also called Avalokiteśvara, is the Bodhisattva of Compassion. His main responsibility is to alleviate pain and direct creatures toward enlightenment. One of Chenrezig's most often repeated mantras, "Om Mani Padme Hum," calls upon his benevolent presence.
