Three revered personalities in the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism are Marpa, Gampopa, and Milarepa. A farmer by trade, Marpa the Translator founded the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and rose to prominence as one of Tibet's great masters.
