About Our Product
This Buddhist Ghau Box with Deity Carvings is an exceptional handcrafted silver shrine created by artist Raj Maharjan in 2022. The exterior is richly decorated with intricate filigree work, relief carving, and original turquoise, lapis lazuli, and coral gemstones. At the top is a Cheppu, a traditional protective mythical face, while the central upper section features a sacred deity surrounded by Makara motifs. The lower exterior is also extensively ornamented with intertwined mythical and decorative forms, creating a richly layered composition across the entire shrine.
The front gate features an elaborate lattice and filigree design with two standing Green Tara figures, one on each side of the central opening. Their presence represents compassionate activity and readiness to assist beings, while the Makara motifs surrounding the central deity add a traditional protective and ornamental element. The reverse side features a Vishvavajra (Double Vajra), with a Dharma Wheel positioned below it, symbolizing indestructible wisdom, stability, and the Buddha's teachings. The interior compartment provides an enclosed space traditionally intended for a sacred image, relic, blessed substance, mantra, or other consecrated object.
A Ghau Box is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist portable shrine used to protect and carry sacred objects while serving as a devotional support. The combination of Cheppu, Makara, Green Tara, Vishvavajra, and Dharma Wheel gives this piece a rich layer of Buddhist and Himalayan symbolism, while the extensive filigree and gemstone inlay demonstrate the precision of traditional metal craftsmanship. Created by Raj Maharjan in 2022, this silver Ghau box is suitable for Buddhist altars, Vajrayana shrine rooms, meditation spaces, sacred art collections, traditional interiors, and devotional displays, representing both the spiritual purpose and artistic heritage of Himalayan Buddhist craftsmanship.
