About Our Product
This Buddha Shakyamuni with Disciples Statue measures 36.5cm in height, 29cm in length, and 17cm in width, weighing 6.4 kg. Crafted from oxidized copper, this elaborate Buddhist sculpture presents a seated central figure with two standing attendants, surrounded by an intricately carved throne and ornamental framework. The composition is distinguished by the prominent Garuda figure above and Makara imagery incorporated into the surrounding throne design.
The central figure is seated upon an elevated lotus-style pedestal with the right hand lowered in the bhumisparsha mudra and the left hand resting in the lap with an alms bowl. Two standing attendants flank the central figure, each holding a long staff. Above the main figure, a winged Garuda forms the uppermost focal element, while the surrounding arch incorporates elaborate scrolling forms and prominent Makara-like creatures. The throne, pedestal, and lower platform are further decorated with layered relief work, ornamental motifs, and a central hanging decorative element.
The combination of the Buddha, attendants, Garuda, and Makara creates a distinctive multi-layered Buddhist composition rather than a simple seated Buddha sculpture. Garuda and Makara are frequently represented in South Asian and Himalayan religious art as powerful mythological beings and ornamental protective figures. This Buddha Shakyamuni with Disciples Statue is well suited for Buddhist altars, shrine spaces, meditation rooms, Dharma centers, and collections of traditional Himalayan Buddhist artwork.
Introduction of Shakyamuni Buddha with Disciples
Siddhartha Gautama, born the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom, was raised as a king according to his royal father's wishes. Around age 29, he became aware of humanity's immense suffering. He then renounced his palatial lifestyle, lavish clothing, and fortune to discover the source of this anguish and find a cure. After more than six years of study, self-denial, and intense concentration, he finally achieved his objective, attaining nirvana (becoming a Buddha). He later stated that he had visited a deer park outside Sarnath (Benares), Varanasi, India.
