Medicine Buddha, also called the Bhaisajyaguru, is famous in Mahayana Buddhism for his healing abilities and compassion. His name, "Bhaisajyaguru," means "Master of Healing," which refers to his work as a healer of physical, emotional, and spiritual afflictions. Bhaisajyaguru's twelve noble vows are intended to direct sentient beings to liberation from suffering. Reciting his mantra invokes his healing blessings, which provide comfort and assistance to people in need. In certain traditions, Bhaisajyaguru is one of seven Medicine Buddhas, each with unique healing abilities. Devotees use numerous practices and rituals to connect with Bhaisajyaguru and seek his blessings for healing and well-being.
