Blue Medicine Buddha Brocade Thangka, Lapis Lazuli Menla Art
Medicine, as the Buddha's name, suggests Buddha is shown in blue, the hue of Lapis Lazuli, on this brocade thangka art. His right-hand grabs a piece of myrobalan in the Varadamudra motion (Latin Terminalia Chebula). His left hand is on his lap, clutching a medicine-filled contribution bowl. In the Tibetan Medical Tradition, he is considered the source of all medical treatises. He wears red silk covering from shoulder to legs, seating crossed legs. The striped blue nimbus patterned with gold and the pinkish halo coplements his blue complexion.
