Introduction To The Thangka :
Buddhist monks know the Wheel of Life or “Bhavacakra” as a powerful meditation tool and by students to learn and understand the teachings of the Buddha. The Wheel represents the reasons for suffering, and it can be seen painted on the walls of many Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in all Himalayan regions.
The Buddha realized that there were not enough people like Maudgalyayana to teach all those who needed to hear his teaching. He, therefore, instructed his disciples to paint the Wheel of Life, a depiction of the different realms of existence, and their underlying processes, at the entrance to every monastery. The picture is not strictly a literal account of worldly existence but effectively appeals to our imagination with its rich and powerful imagery.
How to take care of your thangka?
-Hang your thangka in a traditional silk brocade
-Regular Inspection of your thangka; examine the borders and all attachments.
-Keep thangkas covered when they are on display but not in use.
-Rotate thangkas between display and storage regularly, two to four times a year, to reduce the amount of exposure to light. Keep away from sunlight and humidity.
-Do not apply liquids or other materials to the surface of the thangka.
