Introduction To The Thangka :

Amitabha is also referred to in the Pure Land sects of Mahayana Buddhism as Amitayus, the great rescuer Buddha. Amitabha, one of the five "self-born" buddhas (Dhyani-buddhas) who have existed forever, is adored in Tibet and Nepal but was never as well-known as a savior figure as he was in East Asia. Because he bestows longevity, Amitabha is often referred to as Amitayus, or "Infinite Life."

The two names are frequently used interchangeably in China and Japan, but they are never confused in Tibet, where Amitayus is worshipped in a particular ritual to ensure long life. He is seen carrying the ambrosia vase from which the gems of perpetual life flow, and he has decorations on his head and a crown.

How to take care of your thangka?

-Hang your thangka in a traditional silk brocade
-Regular Inspection of your thangka; examine the borders and all attachments.
-Keep thangkas covered when they are on display but not in use.
-Rotate thangkas between display and storage on a regular basis, two to four times a year, to reduce the amount of exposure to light. Keep away from sunlight and humidity.
-Do not apply liquids or other materials to the surface of the thangka.
