Traditional Standing Green Tara Compassionate Thangka | Symbolizing Swift Blessings and Healing Energy
Standing Green Tara Compassionate Thangkais meticulously hand-painted by skilled artists in the Kathmandu Valley, using acrylic colors on handmade cotton canvas. The carefully prepared cotton canvas serves as the foundation for the painting, allowing the artists to create intricate details, delicate outlines, and smooth transitions of color. Acrylic colors are thoughtfully applied to bring out the vibrant colors of Green Tara’s complexion, traditional ornaments, flowing garments, and surrounding decorative elements. Following traditional Himalayan thangka painting techniques, the artists carefully work on each detail, from the graceful facial expression to the elaborate patterns and symbolic features. The combination of handmade cotton canvas, acrylic painting, and traditional artistic methods reflects the dedication, precision, and workmanship involved in creating this sacred Buddhist artwork.
Green Tara, also known as Shyamatara, is one of the most revered forms of the deity in the context of Tibetan Buddhism and is revered for her swift and compassionate protection. She is a deity of mercy and can vanquish fear and danger while providing immediate help to those who need it. She is depicted sitting on a lotus with one leg stretched out and can jump into action at a moment’s notice. Her association with the color green represents her deep association with the earth and her ability to remove obstacles with speed and efficiency. Her mantra is widely recited to seek her blessings and overcome physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges. The Five Dhyani Buddhas, who stand for the five enlightened wisdoms that turn ignorance, anger, pride, attachment, and jealousy into awakened characteristics, are depicted above Green Tara. Their presence completes the thangka spiritually by tying the immense wisdom of the Buddha family to Green Tara's acts of compassion. Two supporting deities are depicted beneath Green Tara, adding depth to the sacred composition. They appear as wisdom figures, indicating devotion, blessing, protection, and spiritual assistance.
