The Sacred Vajrasattva Meditation Figure is a representation of one of the most respected deities in Vajrayana Buddhism. Standing 16.9 inches (43 cm) tall and weighing 5.93 kg, this stunning statue is made of copper and elegantly embellished with 24K gold plating and incredible gold and acrylic artwork. The rich embellishments on this sculpture, such as the glowing crown and intricate ornaments, symbolize Vajrasattva's superior spiritual standing as a manifestation of indestructible wisdom and compassion.
In this tranquil appearance, Vajrasattva holds a vajra (thunderbolt scepter) close to his chest in his right hand, indicating wisdom's indestructibility. In his left hand, he would usually be holding a bell (ghanta), symbolizing the union of compassion and wisdom, both of which are key components of his teachings. Seated in the lotus pose (padmasana), his peaceful look expresses deep inner peace, making the statue not only a gorgeous work of art but also a powerful tool for meditation and cleansing. Vajrasattva is typically regarded as the second patriarch in the Shingon Buddhist lineage, the first being Vairocana Buddha. According to Kukai's writings in Record of the Dharma Transmission, Nagarjuna encountered Vajrasatva in an iron tower in southern India, based on Amoghavajra's testimony. As recounted in the Mahavairocana Sutra, Vajrasatva inducted Nagarjuna into the abhiseka ceremony and entrusted him with the esoteric teachings he had gained from Vairocana Buddha. Kukai doesn't go into detail on Vajrasatva or his beginnings.
