The Masters of Wisdom and Compassion: Guru Marpha with Milarepa and Gampopa
This Guru Marpha thangka is a stunning piece of Tibetan spiritual art, hand-painted on cotton canvas using acrylic colors and finished with 24K gold. The cotton canvas is expertly prepared with a smooth gesso surface, enabling the use of radiant pigments and intricate gold work on ornaments, robes, and sacred emblems. Created in the traditional style by a master Nepali artist, this painting features intricate brushwork, a balanced composition, and authentic iconography. This thangka is not only a piece of visual art but also a spiritual tool, ideal for meditation, altar space, or dharma practice.
The center of the composition is Guru Marpha, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism known for his wisdom, discipline, and role in preserving the esoteric teachings of the Kagyu lineage. Seated in full robes upon an ornate lotus throne, Guru Marpha is depicted with a calm and direct gaze, adorned in traditional attire with symbolic jewelry, earrings, and a halo, radiating awakened awareness. Surrounded by his disciples, Milarepa and Gampopa, the thangka symbolizes their life of yogic discipline and spontaneous song. This beautiful thangka honors a lineage of awakened masters, warmly inviting viewers into a space filled with blessings, lineage transmission, and personal reflection. It’s an excellent addition for collectors, practitioners, and students of the Tibetan tradition.
