Original Hand-Painted Master Quality Kalachakra Mandala :
The Kalachakra Mandala is a complex Tibetan mandala used for meditation and worship, representing the cosmos and the elements of life (Fire, Earth, Water, Air, and Space). It serves as a "Palace of Purity" housing over seven hundred deities, each symbolized by unique signs and symbols. The mandala features intricate gates representing different aspects of existence: the outermost gates (kayacakra or body-wheels) are guarded by animals drawing chariots—boars at the east, horses at the south, elephants at the west, and lions at the north.
Legend has it that after attaining Enlightenment, Buddha Shakyamuni was approached by King Chandrabhadra of Shambhala to teach the Kalachakra Tantra. In response, the Buddha assumed the form of the Kalachakra deity and transmitted the complete teachings and initiation of this profound tantra. This transmission continued through a lineage of seven kings and 25 propagators.
The mandala's innermost gates symbolize cittacakra (mind wheels) and vakcakra (voice wheels), reflecting deeper levels of spiritual understanding. The external figures around the gates include various animals and divine vehicles from Hindu mythology, such as deer, buffalo, ram, peacock, elephant, mongoose, bull, makara, mouse, and Garuda.
The Kalachakra Mandala serves as a visual and meditative representation of cosmic principles and spiritual evolution, offering practitioners a profound tool for contemplation and the pursuit of enlightenment. Its intricate symbolism and rich history underscore its significance in Tibetan Buddhist practice and philosophy.
