Kalachakra, The Yidam Deity Thangka
Kalachakra, the Yidam Deity of Tibetan Buddhism, embodies the wheel of time and the deep interconnectedness of the universe. Kalachakra, a strong Vajrayana Buddhist deity, helps practitioners conquer time and overcome worldly restrictions on their path to nirvana. This thangka is beautifully framed with red and yellow silk brocade and hand-painted on cotton canvas. Every component of the artwork exhibits skillful artistry and deep spiritual symbolism.
Kalachakra is shown with four faces, indicating the transcendence of the four directions, and twenty-four hands, each holding a distinct implement reflecting the attributes required for spiritual growth. His dynamic posture reflects his active engagement in conquering difficulties. Vishvamata, his consort, represents wisdom and caring energy. They reflect the union of method and wisdom required for enlightenment.
