Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva Thangka, A Symbol of Compassion & Enlightenment
The thangka depicts Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva seated on a vibrant lotus base in a vajra posture, symbolizing spiritual awakening and purity. The golden hues of his body represent his enlightened state and boundless compassion. This masterwork reflects the traditional Karma Gadri style, where Lhasa Stone contributes rich textures and vivid colors to intricate details, creating dynamic, lifelike images while maintaining a balance of clarity and depth. It was meticulously painted on cotton canvas using natural stone pigments. The application of pure 24K gold imparts a luminous glow to the deity, embodying his spiritual strength.
He wears ethereal attire and flowing silken scarves, symbolizing his divine status, along with an elegant five-jeweled crown that signifies mastery over the five wisdoms of the Buddhas. His promise to assist every living being, particularly those suffering in lower realms, is represented by his right hand in the Varada Mudra, the gesture of ultimate charity. In his left hand, he holds a treasured vase filled with nectar, embodying his ability to bestow blessings, longevity, and spiritual wealth.
Above him, Ratnasambhava Buddha, the wisdom aspect associated with calmness and flourishing, is depicted sitting on a lotus seat, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. The surrounding scenery, with its gentle hills and delicate clouds, creates a tranquil and transformed atmosphere. This artwork embodies Kṣitigarbha's compassionate mission of guiding beings out of suffering, reflecting the knowledge and compassion of the Buddhas. This thangka is perfect for meditation rooms, places of worship, or as a spiritually significant gift. It embodies compassion, wisdom, and enlightenment.
