About our Statue:
The Himalayan Statue of Buddhist Guru Marpha stands at 4.1”/10.5 cm in height with a 3.1”/8 cm base and weighs 0.50 kg. This statue represents Marpha, a revered Tibetan Buddhist teacher known for his profound wisdom and role in the transmission of Buddhist teachings in Tibet. Crafted from oxidized copper. Designed by talented Nepalese artisans, this detailed sculpture is ideal for altars, meditation areas, or as a meaningful decor item for individuals seeking awareness in their daily life.
The Marpa figurine is shown seated in a meditative pose on a square base, his hands resting in his lap in a gesture of meditation. He wears highly adorned robes that reflect his role as a Dharma interpreter and teacher. The robes have a unique patterned design that reflects his particular style and tradition. The figure's demeanor is tranquil, with a small smile and unusual hair. The figurine's overall design emphasizes Marpa's historical importance and spiritual achievements within the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Introduction to Guru Marpa:
Marpa (1012–1097), also called Marpa Lotsawa, was a well-known Tibetan Buddhist teacher and translator. His most well-known contributions are his translations of numerous significant Buddhist texts from Sanskrit into Tibetan and his role as Milarepa's teacher. Marpa studied under renowned gurus in India and Nepal, making many trips there and returning with a wealth of knowledge and techniques that would have a big impact on Tibetan Buddhism. His life is a prime example of how to combine intense spiritual practice with rigorous academic study. The Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism was founded on the translation and dissemination of the teachings by Marpa.
