Hand-Painted Female Buddha, Arya Tara | Tibetan Goddess of Compassion and Protection
The thangka portrays the revered female Buddha Arya Tara, also known as Green Tara, who is one of Tibetan Buddhism's most venerated female deities. Hand-painted on cotton canvas, it features acrylic colors and 24K gold to highlight her serene expression. Gold accents on her crown and adornments add a sacred aura, drawing the viewer's attention to her calm presence. The radiant pigments highlight her serene yet alert expression, while the gold accents enhance her sacred aura. Painted in the Karma Gadri style, it showcases the elegance and spiritual grace of the Himalayan art school. It features wide landscapes, gentle natural hues, and soft contours, offering emotional resonance and visual space for meditation.
Arya Tara is depicted in her royal ease posture (lalitasana), where her right leg is extended, poised to arise instantly in aid of sentient beings. Her right hand forms the varada mudra, the gesture of giving, signifying her endless generosity and willingness to assist. Her left hand, in the abhaya mudra, holds the stem of a blue utpala lotus, symbolizing purity, protection, and awakening from ignorance. This posture and gesture combination conveys her active compassion and fearless protection.
Every aspect of this thangka is intentionally composed to reflect Tara’s enlightened qualities. The flowing silks, elaborate crown, and refined anatomy follow precise iconographic guidelines while maintaining artistic softness through the Karma Gadri style. This visual harmony makes the thangka ideal for meditation, personal devotion, or as a sacred decorative artwork with deep spiritual symbolism. It is a fine collector's art and a meaningful offering to your spiritual space, embodying the swift and loving presence of Arya Tara, the one who liberates from fear.
