About Our Bell

This copper body Buddhist Bell & Vajra Set includes an 18 cm bell (ghanta) and an 11 cm vajra (dorje), which are essential ritual elements in Vajrayana Buddhism, representing the union of wisdom and compassion on the path to enlightenment. The bell is 18 cm tall and 9.5 cm broad, weighing 0.408 kg, while the vajra is 3 cm high and 11 cm wide, weighing 0.138 kg. Both are made of excellent craftsmanship. Their combined weight of 0.546 kg provides balance and significance to meditation or sacred areas.

The vajra's five-pronged design symbolizes the transformation of the five basic delusions—ignorance, attachment, aversion, pride, and jealousy—into the wisdoms connected with the five Buddhist families. When combined with the bell, which represents the feminine component of wisdom and emptiness, the set represents the ideal balance of active compassion and insightful wisdom. The vajra and bell are used combined in rituals to signify the path to enlightenment, gathering a profound understanding of Buddhist teachings through harmony, non-dual consciousness, and the attributes of a fully awakened mind.

Introduction to Vajra & Bell

The vajra means "diamond" or "lightning" in Sanskrit, is an important symbol and ritual instrument in Hinduism and more in the Buddhist tradition Vajrayana ("diamond way") to which it gave its name.
Tibetan Dorje represents the indestructibility and efficiency that overcome all obstacles. Symbolically, Dorje Vajra destroys ignorance. In Tibetan Buddhist rituals, the vajra is often used with the bell, representing the masculine and the feminine, the ying and the yang, the effective action, and the compassion. The shape of the Tibetan Dorje is symmetrical, the two pyramidal heads representing samsara and Nirvana, which cancel each other out in its center thanks to the ring of Emptiness. Having a Dorje at home would have positive virtues against the various attacks we suffer.
The bell or drills is the feminine aspect of the perfection of wisdom, which directly realizes emptiness.
The Vajra or Dorje represents the male aspect as a method or skillful means, the indestructible nature of the absolute. Together they symbolize the blessing mandala of a practitioner’s main yidam deity.
